Pupils and staff enjoyed a wonderful time in Andalusia

Pupils and staff have been enjoying a wonderful time in Andalusia during the half term break.

Sunday was a nice relaxing day after Saturday's travel by coach and plane to Almería. The pupils and staff headed to the desert to spend the day at Mini Hollywood, a theme park and zoo in a unique setting, and previously home to cowboy film sets. They enjoyed a cowboy show, a bird show, a dance routine, and wandering around to see the old movie set, and visit the animals. After dinner, there was a trip to the cinema to see the latest Marvel movie. They had the cinema to themselves!

Monday was spent at IES Albaída, our Spanish partner school. The activities organised for the pupils were really thoughtful and allowed them to interact with Spanish students in an enjoyable way. There were escape room quizzes and exercise challenges, speed 'dating' (short interviews), and our pupils also took part in Physical Education during the afternoon. They brought food from the UK to share with Spanish friends at breaktime, and it was great fun for all. After some time to relax and visit the local shopping centres, the pupils and staff headed to the Estadio Mediterráneo to watch the Almería versus Elche match. It was joyous when Almería equalised, and the final score of 1-1 was the perfect end to the day.

Their day in the city of Almería on Tuesday involved a lot of walking, but the pupils showed resilience and did not complain too much! They enjoyed a guided tour of the recently opened Spanish Realism Museum and saw some incredible sculptures and paintings by Spanish artists from the 19th century to the present day. They also visited the Alcazaba with Spanish friends from IES Albaída, then spent a few hours relaxing on the sea front, playing ball games on the beach. Following a walk back to the hotel, they headed out once again to see a flamenco show, with audience participation for one of the songs.

Yesterday they visited the magnificent Alhambra in Granada, along with the Albaicín and city centre. The weather has been kind, with only 5 minutes of light rain when they reached the Mirador San Nicolás to take in breathtaking views of the Alhambra.

We would like to thank Ms McKeown and other staff involved in organising these wonderful opportunities for our pupils, and for accompanying them on their adventures this week.
